Winter Solstice

 24" x 36", Acrylic on Paper

The mid-winter light falling on snow in the Midwest has an innumerable variety of blues. On those quiet evenings as the sun seems to race to the horizon, it lays shadows that bring out the texture and form of the snow. I've tried to capture that in this piece.

This original has been sold.

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

 18" x 24", Acrylic on Board

My wife and I enjoyed this view while walking on the beach on a balmy late afternoon. Where the sun strikes the clouds, it brings out an almost luminescent white while the calm azure ocean glows with reflected light. This original is not for sale.

Crystal Lakes Reflected Sunset

 24" x 36", Acrylic on Canvas

Sold

This painting is an early attempt to capture reflections in still water. I used to go for walks around Crystal Lakes as a way to unwind after work and would notice how the light played off the surface of the waters.

Lake Powell Summer

 18" x 24", Acrylic on Canvas

New Day In Ohio

 24" x 34", Acrylic on Board

I noticed this sunrise driving to work on a subzero morning. The snow in the field seemed to glow in anticipation of the coming dawn.  I pulled off to side of the road and shot several dozen pictures which I then used to compose this piece. It was created using a much thicker glaze than I typically work with to bring out the reflective surface of the foreground.

Winter Martha's Vineyard

 3" x 12", Acrylic on Canvas

This is the view from a ferry to Martha's Vineyard in late winter. I spent several months doing work in Cape Cod and found the winter months in this area are strikingly quieter than the tourist season and a reflective time to paint.
