The Road So Far 16" x 20", Acrylic on Board  As my family and I were driving away from Burney Falls, California, the clouds broke for the first time that day. I wanted to remember the fun we had exploring northern California and traveling down highways we'd never seen before. Greater Lakes 24" x 36", Acrylic on Canvas  This was inspired by a visit to Lake Erie and a book I had read about the Great Lakes. The environmental degradation the lakes face combined with freshwater being treated as another commodity as the climate continues to change is something I find greatly concerning. The original has been sold. Waiting For A Signal 18" x 36", Acrylic on Canvas  A self portrait from when I was mapping a river in northern Indiana. It was very remote and pristine compared to most places I had worked. The weeks I mapped the area reminded me of my youth spent playing in streams that wound their way through the farmland, woodlots and remnants of wetlands much like that one. The mastodon tooth in the right of the painting was found in a northern Ohio stream bed not far from where I grew up. I needed an excuse to work it into a painting and it seemed like a good fit. But a century and a half of industry and expansion and the consequential waste that comes along with it make the ground beneath us a place we should all be a little more interested in. Some Enchanted Evening 21" x 32", Acrylic on Canvas  This was a large scale study in texture and an illustration of the movement of water. The turtle, clams and salamander were left as rough, washed-in images. |
